A yak-hair tent is called "dra nag" in Tibetan.
Although the yak hair panels appear to be porous, in harsh conditions they are snow and rain proof. Dried yak dung fire smolders more than it fires really, so there is more smoke inside the tent, therefore, a large opening is located at the top which allows sunlight inside the yak hair tent during most of the day and allows smoke from the interior fires to exit easily.
Modern times have also been introduced to the nomads as shown, with a flat screen TV and a bulb hangs in this tent.
Although the Tibetans prefer this tent, they will readily admit that the Mongol yurt or ger is a warmer dwelling. What is amazing is that a tent that originated in a hot desert country could penetrate into such a cold land"
