Tso Drolung Lake: by Tibetan standards this is called a small lake, some 5 km long and 3 km wide with an altitude of 4600 m, surrounded with rugged mountains.
Kyirong county in South Lato occupies the valleys of the Kyirong Tsangpo River (Trishuli) and its tributaries as well as the adjacent Gungtang-chu headwaters and the basin of lake Pelkhu Tso. To the south stradling the Tibet/Nepal border lie the mighty snow peaks of the Himalayan range: Ganesh Himal 7406 m, Langtang 7232 m and Shishapangma 8012 m. Further north there are trails crossing the high watershed passes into North Lato, and the Yarlung Tsangpo ཡར་ཀླུངས་གཙང་པོ་ (Brahmaputra)valley. The Kyirong gorge and valley form one of Tibet`s most beautiful picturesque alpine regions; and it boasts sites of historic importance, connected with King Songtsen Gampo, Padmasambhava, Milarepa, and Sakya Pandita, among others. The county capital is located at Dzongka,
Area: 8.869 sq km.

Sera Thekchenlin
At the base of Mount Purbuchok, which forms part of the watershed between the Kyi-chu and the Penpo-churivers, Sera Thekchenling was founded in 1419 by Tsongkhapa`s disciple Jamchen Choje Sakya Yeshe of Tsel Gungtang (1355-1435). Prior to this foundation, Tsongkhapa and his foremost students had established hermitages in the ridge above (Sera Utse). In time, the monastic community at Sera came to number between 5000 and 6000 monks. The complex comprises the Great Assembly Hall (Tsokchen), three colleges (previously there were four or five, including Sera To which were gradually amalgamated, and 30 residential units (khangtsang). A long driveway divides the complex into eastern and western sectors - the former containing the Great Assembly Hall and the Homdong Kangtsang, and the latter containing the three colleges. The pilgrimage route follows a clockwise circuit in the sequence Sera Me Tratsang, Ngakpa Tratsang, Sera Je Tratsang, Hamdong Khangtsang, Tsokchen Assembly Hall, and Tsongkhapa`s hermitage on Mount Phurbuchok.

Drak Yerpa the historic complex of caves and temples.
Also: Brag Yer-pa, Druk Yerpa, Dagyeba, Dayerpa, Trayerpa. The entrance to the Yerpa Valley is about 16 km northeast of Lhasa on the northern bank of the Kyichu. From there, it is another 10 km to the famous ancient meditation caves in the spectacular limestone cliffs of the Yerpa Valley.
There are a number of small temples shrines and hermitages and the cliffs contain some of the earliest known meditation sites in Tibet, some dating back to pre-Buddhist times. Among the more famous are those traditionally connected with Songtsän Gampo (604–650 CE), (traditionally the 33rd king of the Yarlung Dynasty and first emperor of a united Tibet). His Tibetan queen, Monza Triucham, founded the Dra Yerpa temple here.
He and his two foreign-born queens are said to have meditated in the 'Peu Marsergyi Temple' and in the 'Chogyel Puk', and to have discovered 'self-originated' symbols of the Buddha-body, speech and mind. Padmasambhava, or Guru Rinpoche (late 8th to early 9th century), meditated and practiced tantric yoga with his yogini Yeshe Tsogyal here, and to have spent 7 months in meditation in the 'Dawa Puk', which is considered to be one of his three most important places of attainment.
After this, Yerpa became one of the three most important centres of meditation and retreat in Central Tibet. Several of Guru Rinpoche's disciples are also said to have meditated here. Atisha (982 - 1054 CE) preached extensively in the valley. Atisha's hermitage is in ruins but had 300 monks in the 19th century and was the summer quarters for the Ramoche Monastery (the Upper Tantric College).

Pseudois nayaur
Bharal, Himalayan blue sheep
The Bharal is known as the Himalayan blue sheep though strangely enough, it is neither blue nor is it a sheep.
Blue Sheep occupy a variety of habitats across the region. They are very tolerant of environmental extremes from desert mountains in searing heat to windy and cold slopes (Schaller 1998). They are usually found near cliffs and similar escape cover, but avoid entering forested areas (Schaller,1977).
