This picture was taken at a small horse festival on the grasslands near Labrang in eastern Amdo province. Hundreds on nomad and local Tibetans arrived to the event on horseback and motorcycle. Amdo Tibetans are known for their horse riding skills, even though more and more nomads are trading in their horse for a motorcycle. Horse festivals are one of the most fascinating aspects of Tibetan culture.

Napahai Lake (napahai ziran baohqu) is both an ideal grazing field for herdsmen and a paradise for many species of birds. This is, in the true sense, a seasonal lake. When summer comes, snow on the adjacent mountains melts and flows down into about ten rivers forming a vast lake. In the dry season, Napahai becomes a boundless green grassland--the best time for herding sheep or cattle. [China.org.cn]
- Great Wall collapses after heavy rain, repair work underway

下载安装Flash播放器Repair work is underway for a section of the Great Wall in north China's Hebei province that collapsed after days of continuous rain, local officials said Thursday.
The collapse occurred Monday, when strong currents of water from the mountains crushed the Dajingmen section of the Great Wall in Zhangjiakou following days of continuous rain, an official with the city's Qiaoxi district said.
Experts have cleared the fallen section, which extends 36 meters, and reinforced other loose sections to prevent further collapses. Cracks were also spotted on other parts of the wall near the collapsed section.
Cultural relics protection experts are making proposals to repair the damaged areas.
The Dajingmen section of the Great Wall was built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and has endured years of erosion, which also contributed to the collapse, experts said.
A great amount of rainfall has battered China since the rainy season began, causing widespread flooding in the vast country. Last month, the heaviest downpours in over 60 years in Beijing paralyzed the capital city, killing 79.

After May, the green grassland is dotted with colorful flowers, birds, and cattle and sheep scattered among the grasses. There are also various local activities, including horseback and camelback riding, horse racing and wrestling. [China.org.cn]
- Baoguo Temple in Emei Mountain
Located 150 kilometers away from Chengdu and only 28 kilometers from Leshan, Emei Mountain has been designated a World Heritage Site due to its breathtaking scenery, mysterious natural wonders and historical Buddhist sites. The Baoguo Temple situated at the foot of the mountain is the largest temple on Mount Emei, built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The red copper Huayan Pagoda inside the temple is an important relic for studying Chinese Buddhism. [China.org.cn/by Chen Xiangzhao]
