Beijing's Mountains Covered in Snow for a Perfect Winter Wonderland Landscape

Winter gets a bad rap for the lack of sunshine and drop in temperature, but if you manage to get past the whole weather issue, then winter can actually be a whole lot of fun.

When Beijing is covered in pure white snow, it's a sight to be seen (especially if you're on the Great Wall of China), it's the only time of year when you can ice skate and run all over the frozen over Houhai Lake, make snow angels in Chaoyang Park and launch a snowball battlefield.

It's also the time of year where you are socially obligated to eat your heart out with all the Thanksgiving Turkeys, Christmas Hams and pumpkin pies galore. In addition to the holiday feasts we indulge in are also the hot, tasty drinks I can't get enough of – from mugs of hot cocoa to pots of brewing mulled wine.

But the world of winter drinks doesn't just stop there.  There is so much more to discover and The Hutong is where that's at.

The Hutong will be hosting a winter-inspired cocktail making class together with Mixologist Paul Matthew (brand ambassador for Diageo China, certified trainer, drinks consultant, bar owner and writer) has been in the drinks industry for over 17 years and will be introducing basic cocktail-making techniques and equipment and teaching a workshop on winter cocktails using seasonal ingredients.

"This session will focus on drinks for the colder weather, again using seasonal ingredients, but this time looking at some different mixed drink types, including blazers, toddies and pan-fried cocktails!" – The Hutong

The Hutong will treat all participating guests to a hot gin punch upon arrival (and throughout the evening for those that need it) and the focus of the evening will be on gin, rum and whisky, with a selection of premium brands to compare and contrast (for those with a discerning palate).

After a brief refresh on the basics of cocktail-making and equipment, this workshop will show you how to make some classic drinks with some very special ingredients, from top-of-the-range and unusual spirits, to fresh ingredients from our local Hutong market.

Whether you're a designated driver or someone looking to take full advantage of the alcohol being served at this cocktail making session, all drinks are included from classic brands to premium rarities, and strengths of each drink can be adjusted to suit your preferences.

"It's a fun evening that is held in the style of our cooking classes; it is suitable for those keen to know more about cocktails as well as those who just want a fun evening with a few drinks. Paul is a qualified spirits and cocktail trainer and will happily answer any drink-related questions you may have."   - The Hutong

The Cocktail Making Workshop will be held next Thursday, November 15 at The Hutong from 7:00-9:30PM.
