The great Lancang-Mekong River and its numerous tributaries form a giant network for both irrigation and navigation. But while these aspects of the great water system are positive, in the past the numerous rivers made it difficult for different communities to maintain contact. A local dream cherished for a very long time has been to turn the rivers into passageways for convenient transportation, and efforts to realize this dream have never ceased. Now, thanks to the realization of this dream along the Lancang-Mekong River, not only has international friendship been established, but many trans-national marriage cases have resulted. In this program we will see the world's widest waterfall, the positive changes occurring in local life as a result of river dredging, Chinese language teaching in the small town of Chiang Saen in Thailand, the story of a Chinese merchant who has established a successful career in the shipping business, the life of a Vietnamese girl on the Mekong River, and the romance of a Chinese construction worker in Vietnam.
