Berlin somberly commemorates 80 years since Hitler's rise to power
Topography of Terror
Commemorating the 80th anniversary of Hitler's ascent to power, Berlin is hosting a series of exhibitions, lectures, art installations and events throughout the year. A new exhibit, "Berlin 1933 - Road to dictatorship" opened at the Topography of Terror open-air documentation center in Berlin this week. Most of the city's events began on January 30 and will end on November 9. The opening and closing dates were selected for historical significance: Adolf Hitler was named chancellor on January 30, while organized violence against Jews broke out across the Reich on November 9, known also as "The Night of Broken Glass."
