“NO MORE MONO” Exhibition Bursts Non-Sustainable Fashion Bubble

No More Mono, Beijing

Having moved from Hong Kong to Beijing last spring, eco-friendly fashion brand NEEMIC has joined forces with other design brands like GAR-DE and SARAYUN, launching "NO MORE MONO," a new collective and exchange-fashion focused exhibition at the Liang Dian Design Center (LDDC) in Dongsishitiao, Beijing.

Showcasing a range of local fashion, photography and street-style culture, "NO MORE MONO" combats a non-sustainable "mono" or "monoculture" frame of fashion and explores it as a dynamic, multi-disciplinary field, advocating plurality and endless creativity.

Hans Galliker, half of the team that initiated NEEMIC, said the exhibition that "is the first event of the Beijing Fashion Collective which technically doesn't yet exist." He continued,

In Beijing the fashion designers don't collaborate so much, but we think together we think we can reach more — and by reach, I mean do more art projects together, source more materials together, and get further in the market. Sourcing is an especially big problem for independent fashion designers. If we can source materials together we can also have more market power.

Running through March 3, "NO MORE MONO" will include an installation with looks from the three fashion brands — NEEMIC, GAR-DE and SARAYUN — and features photography from eight artists including Slovenian fashion photographer Matjaž Tančič and Bowie Chan, as well as a video piece. The exhibition will also host sample sales on February 24 and a roundtable discussion on its closing day.
