PRIDE 2012 Schedule

PRIDE is once again upon us so here's the official rundown of what will be happening for the most fabulous of weeks on the Shangay calendar: June 15-23. This list is only dates and times of the events, to ensure as minimal closures as possible; venues will only be released in the days prior to any given event. We'll be giving updates, and you can also keep an eye on www.shpride.com.


Fri., June 15

The festival begins with the opening of a ART SHOW from Hoon Choi, 7pm-midnight. This ongoing exhibition closes on June 25.


Sat., June 16

The festivities officially kick off with the PINK PICNIC from 11am-2pm and the OFFICIAL OPENING PARTY from 8pm-2am. These are two of the biggest events for Pride so make sure to get there and get your PRIDE on with colorful clothes and rainbow attire in the afternoon -- then dress to impress for evening as we dance the night away to celebrate the opening of Shanghai Pride 2012!


Sun., June 17

For all the athletes and people who didn't drink themselves silly the night before, the PRIDE SWIMMING COMPETITION is from 9am-1pm, get there to compete and cheer on (check out) our boys and girls in Pink as they tear up the lanes.


In the evening from 7:30-10pm Urban Aphrodite will stage 3xTENN, a performance based on the work of Tennessee Williams.

Mon., June 18

From 6:30pm-9:30pm the first in a FILM SCREENING series is set to bring out classic gay cinema as well as newer entries to the gay film canon.

This evening also features the opening of Linda Li and Guillermo Garcia's PHOTO EXHIBITION, 9pm-midnight. The show goes until June 25.

Maxine Hong Kingston

Award-winning writer Maxine Hong Kingston is known for her works reflecting on Chinese-American culture and heritage. She is the author most recently of The Fifth Book of Peace, and won the National Book Award for her 1980 novel China Men. In 1997, she received the National Humanities Medal from President Bill Clinton. A native of California, Kingston is now a professor emerita at UC Berkeley. [5/2007] [Humanities] [Show ID: 12224]
