Three of Shanghai's Best Burritos

Need to satisfy that Mexican craving? We've rounded up three of the best burritos in Shanghai. From the cheap, to the chic; there's a little something for everyone.

Pistolera | Mexican & Tex-Mex
Pistolera may be off the beaten path, but a trip out to Jinqiao is well worth it for one of their burritos. The basic carne con chili (RMB60) is a flavorful mélange of saucy pulled pork and beef with a healthy balance of potatoes, red rice, refried beans, cheddar cheese and pico de gallo. Served with some crunchy nachos and tangy salsa in a venue that's got a warm atmosphere and great service, this burrito has it all: it's value and flavor wrapped up in a delicious little package.

Pizza To Go | Delivery
With most burritos in town ranging from 50 to 70 kuai a pop, the idea of a 10-incher costing only RMB18 might leave you doubtful. Yet Pizza To Go's blows a lot of those more expensive options out of the water, not only in terms of value but in flavor as well. Their beef burrito is stuffed with ground beef, rice, black beans, salsa and a strangely tasty processed cheese all held together with a sauce that's plentiful without crossing into sloppy joe levels, unlike one over-sauced burrito we tried.

MAYA | Mexican & Tex-Mex
Going to MAYA for a burrito might seem a little like going to Mr & Mrs Bund for French fries, but they have them on their menu as bar snacks so we thought we might as well try them. At first glance, the tiny thing will make want to shed a tear of disappointment, at least until you take your first bite. The lime beef version (RMB55), with its perfectly seasoned slices of tender grilled beef, refried beans, cheese and rice, will soon have you crying tears of joy. You'll definitely want to order at least two or three of these addictive little buggers.
