Nothing Happens when you’re Asleep

So stay up, until your flight.  I'm leaving on a Jet Plane soon, so it's about time to get my traveling ritual ready.  After I travel to Shanghai on the train I'm flying back to Beijing, and then taking a Beijing flight straight back to the US.  It's about time for me to start getting my act together for my longhall flight, here are some travelling tips that help me make it through:

Pull an all Nighter

Before any long flight or bus ride I usually make a point of not sleeping the night before.  There are three main benefits to this.  First off, whenever I'm leaving somewhere I always want to spend as much time as possible with the people there, and what better way to do that than staying up all night with them.  Second, it makes it really easy to clock out as soon as I sit down on the plane.  There's nothing nicer than remembering nothing about a plane ride besides takeoff and landing.   Third, it helps me a lot with jet lag.  I usually wake up around when I land, and from there I just start with whatever the time is where I am.  This is much easier than when I stay up for a whole plane ride, and my body doesn't know which way is up or down.

Get up and Stretch

Would you sit in one place for twelve hours if you were home? (If yes please stop reading this and go outside, thanks).  Every two or so hours get up, walk around the plane, and stretch out your legs.  The person next to you won't mind.  I usually watch movies when I fly, and I'll try to get up and walk around after each one.  Don't take this one lightly.  Your legs will thank you when you land.

Bring Multiple forms of Entertainment

There's nothing worse than being stuck on a plane with a laptop with no batteries.  Don't count on power chargers, wifi, in flight movies, or anything else.  Bring a book or two in case nothing else works out.  You don't want to be stuck on a 12 hour flight with nothing to entertain yourself.  Bring some work if you're feeling responsible, anything really.  Just be sure to bring something.

There's nothing better than travel in foreign countries, especially China travel.  Follow these tips and you can enjoy yourself at your destination, rather than writing off the first day as a wash.
