Ride of a Lifetime: The Hutong’s Yunnan Bike Journey

Join The Hutong on "the ride of a lifetime" biking through Yunnan
After a very active, long weekend in the Genghis Khan MTB Adventure & Grassland Marathon in Inner Mongolia where I ran the half marathon fundraising for Team Operation Smile and embarked on mountain biking adventures through the grasslands, I have been inspired to continue on this path of spending more time outdoors and exploring other picturesque regions of China that reminds me that there is so much more beyond this little bubble of Beijing.
Only three days away was all I needed to feel rejuvenated (must have been the overload of fresh, clean air).
In case you don't follow me already on Instagram @lumdimsum, here are a few snapshot highlights of my weekend in Inner Mongolia:

The fresh air may have gotten to my head as I am now determined to do more.
Although I very much enjoyed running through the grasslands of Inner Mongolia on foot, I can't say that I am committed to running any more half marathons (or any other distance that exceeds my pain threshold that hugs the 18KM mark).
But after testing out the idea of mountain biking, I thought this might be a nice alternatives to stay active outdoors, continue to sign myself up for this annual race and prevent any major long-term damage on my knees and ankles training for long-distance runs.
The Hutong hosts this 8-day bike tour through Xishuangbanna, the southernmost prefecture of Yunnan Province where participants get familiar with many of China's ethnic minority groups by staying in minority villages, taste the world's most highly regarded Pu-er tea and learning to process their own Pu-er tea bricks and biking up and over tea farms and visiting botanical gardens.
"Through The Hutong's Yunnan Bike Journey you will experience village life, while also exploring Yunnan and its diverse cultures, delicious cuisines, and celebrated teas. Each day you will be introduced to a different minority and savor their unique specialties. Each day will bring you new flavors, new recipes, new stories, new friends. From the area's most populous minority, the Dai, to the region's most remote ethnic groups, explore one of the last virgin lands where one can find undisturbed but welcoming cultures." - The Hutong
The landscape is stunning and the idea of biking through remote parts of Yunnan, exploring it's tea farms and botanical gardens, and staying in minority villages learning to make pu-er tea just sounds like the most magical adventure I could dream of.
The Yunnan Bike Journey will take place over October holiday break. The price of an all-inclusive 8-day bike tour (meals and accommodation included) is RMB 8,500 or RMB 7,500 (if you sign up before August 1, 2012). *Note that this price does not include the cost of round trip flights or bike rental.
