No complimentary Shampoo for Shenzen Hotels

Guangdong's provincial legislature is asking the hospitality industry to curb the issue of complimentary toiletries and disposable grooming products.

Hotels in Shenzhen are awaiting more details about the proposed regulations aimed at creating an economy with a heightened use of recycling by reducing waste from disposable products such as slippers, toothbrushes and shampoo bottles.

Although hotels in Shenzhen have recognized the regulations as positive for the environment, high-end business hotels are sceptical their guests will embrace the changes.

"Chinese guests are used to being given disposable articles, such as toothbrushes and toothpaste. It would be very hard to make them understand why they need to pay for them," said Yang Zhiyong, vice director at Wuzhou Guest House, a Shenzhen five-star hotel.

Shenzhen budget hotels are more comfortable with the changes sighting lower expectations from guests due to price.

"When I check into a budget hotel, I don't expect free disposable articles because it's cheap. However, it would surprise me to find no free articles in a starred hotel because I think their cost should have been covered by the money I paid for a room," said Sun Hao, a frequent business traveller.

Hygiene concerns have also been raised over the possibility of introducing reusable goods.

Sicao Green Tunnel (四草綠色隧道), Tainan, 09/20/2012

Billed as a "green tunnel" on the water, the creek is shaded on both sides by mangrove trees growing in the wetland. A short raft ride on the water channel through the wetland is now a major tourist draw at Taijiang National Park. The park has a total area of 39310 hectares. Land area includes public lands from Yanshui River to the Zengwen River of Tainan City, Tainan Black-faced spoonbill Reserve and Cigu Lagoon, covering 4095 hectares. The main focuses of the plan are to protect wetlands biodiversity, history of settlement and the characteristic salt and fishing industries. The sea area portion of the park encompasses the coastal water of 20-meter isobaths and the sea region of 20-meter isobaths from Yanshui Estuary to the south end of Tungchi Island in Penghu archipelago, which is 54-kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. It was the main water route for early Han Chinese settlers crossing from Tungchi Island to Luerhmen. The sea thus encompasses 34405 hectares.
