The Creators Project returns to Seoul with more bleeding-edge art and music
Anyone who has heard of The Creators Project will have a vague idea that it has something to do with art and music and cool stuff in general; but not a lot of people seem to know exactly what it entails.
The official website calls the three-year-old project "a global celebration of art and technology," that has supported 150 artists around the world. A collaboration between Vice Magazine and Intel, the project features a series of traveling events showcasing "large-scale audiovisual installations" and musical performances.
So, yeah, like we said, art and music and cool stuff in general.
The first showcase for 2012 was held in San Francisco. Seoul is one of the other four host cities, namely Beijing, Paris, São Paulo and New York City.
This year's Creators Project Seoul takes place September 21-23 at the new Dongdaemun Design Plaza designed by Anglo-Iraqi architect Dame Zaha Hadid. While the actual stadium is still under construction, the project is taking over the event space and the public park.
"It's ultra-artsy ... the kind of cutting-edge art which is difficult to find in Korea," said a Korean entertainment industry insider who attended the first Creators Project Seoul last year.
"You keep hearing that Korea has all this cutting-edge art at galleries but most of it is catered to fine art graduate students and really obscure. The Creators Project actually brings in global talent and shows the kind of interesting stuff you'd see at PS1 in New York."
LA-based electronic musician Nosaj Thing."A lot of people were surprised that Tokyo wasn't one of the cities, but right now the contemporary art scene in Seoul is very interesting so it makes a lot of sense to have it here," said Kyuhee Baik, the Korea Editor for Vice Magazine. "There are plans to expand the tour to other cities."
Music acts such as 2NE1, Drunken Tiger, Nosaj Thing, Idiotape and Vidulgi OoyoO will be performing, and works by visual artists Chris Milk, Yang Yongliang, Everyware and Matt Pyke will be shown throughout the three-day event.
Artist panels and lectures are also on the schedule.
Everything is free as long as you RSVP here.

Is it a painting? A photograph? A video installation with an interactive element? We have no idea, but it looks pretty damn cool -- something we suspect will be a recurring theme throughout this three-day event.
