Dr. Alexander Kumar was sent to Antarctica to study the long-term effects of isolation as part of a European Space Agency team. He describes it as "the worst winter in the world."

Kate Whitehead is a Hongkonger and has made the city her home since she was eight. She escaped for university and returned after her master's degree and was on staff at the Hong Kong Standard and the South China Morning Post. Most recently, Kate was the editor of Cathay Pacific's inflight magazine, Discovery.
