New movie: Painted Skin : The Resurrection

On June 28, a sequel of the 2008 supernatural fantasy film Painted Skin will be hitting the cinemas across China, presenting the audience with another romantic legend between mortals and evil spirits, with the interference of other unearthly forces. Four years later, a 3D film is produced, as promised by the supervisor Chen Guofu (陈国富).

With most original actors and actresses such as Chen Kun (陈坤), Zhou Xun (周迅) and Zhao Wei (赵薇) returning for the sequel, Painted Skin Ⅱ tells an entirely different story from the 2008 film. In spite of the fact that the story has changes, most of the leading roles share some similarities with previous ones. Xiao Wei (Zhou Xun), who is still a fox spirit, is prisoned in hell of freezing cold for 500 years for breaking rules and has to suffer the bitterness of her destiny. Xiao Wei is faced with two choices in front of her: one is to be held back to hell; the other is to find a human heart that is "offered willingly" and becomes a real mortal. Searching for targets everywhere, Xiao Wei accidentally meets Princess Jing (Zhao Wei) who has been escaping from a marriage and whose face has been disfigured in an accident. Xiao Wei discovers that the princess has special heart, thus she expects to use the princess to fullfil her mission.

Princess Jing goes back to the city of Bai, and her presence surprises Huo Xin (Chen Kun), who used to be her lover and bears deep guilt. It is hard for him to accept the sudden fact that the princess plans to elope with him. Detecting the subtle chemistry between the princess and Huo Xin, Xiao Wei comes up with a plan. She manages to bewitch the princess into believing that what men want from women is only sexual pleasure, implying that it is the princess' disfigured face that prevents Huo Xin from accepting her love. Encouraged by Xiao Wei, the princess even uses evil tricks to intrigue Huo Xin. After she enjoys sexual pleasure with Huo Xin in Xiao Wei's body, she starts to believe the power of beauty.

At the same time, when the princess is about to be taken back to the marriage that she had tried to escape from, Huo Xin risks his life to save the princess, but is saved by the princess herself. He thus understands the true meaning of love. With death looming, the two women also change their attitudes. Xiao Wei stop making use of the princess and starts to take her side. After knowing that the two women are in each other's body, Huo Xin turns himself blind with his own fingers and makes up him mind to get the princess back. With the advent of a battle, will there be miracles?

In addition to the original cast, there are several new faces joining the sequel, including famous young actor and actress Yang Mi (杨幂) and Feng Shaofeng (冯绍峰), and the renowned singer Fei Xiang (费翔). As the film hits nationwide theaters, an online game of the same name will be launched at the same time.

PUNING SI Temple of Universal Peace Chengde, China

Puning Si is one of eight splendid monasteries and temples that are located northeast of the emperor's summer residence of Chengde in the Chinese province of Hebei. During the 18th century, Manshu Emperor Kangxi ordered the construction of the Great Palace and its surrounding Eight Outer Temples. Puning SI, the 'Temple of Universal Peace', was built between 1755 and 1758. The area was divided into two architecturally different sections and because the temple was constructed during the time of an important military event, its facade conformed to traditional Chinese Han design. Its architecture was meant to symbolise China's power over the feared Mongolian Dshungars. The Mahayana Pavilion represents the centre of Buddhist religious belief, namely, Sumeru Mountain. Thus, the five-story building is located in the middle of an architectural mandala. Several small halls and terraces surround the impressive pavilion that is one of the greatest examples of its kind. Each one of the architectural elements that are located close to the Pavilion adhere to the disciplined structure of the Buddhist Universe.
