Ancient Tribe Of China: Bailuo(白倮)
There is an unknown ethnic minority village in Yunnan. The folk custom remains ancient habit and full of wits which are not familiar with people living outside the village. The local government in Yunnan regards this village as cultural and historical relics and names it Chengzhai (城寨).
In Chengzhai, there are 411 people who are belongs to an ethnic minority named Bailuo (白倮). Nobody can tell the date when the village was built because the long history it has. Aged people here just know their ancients came from South Xinjiang. And they remain a lot of unique customs their ancients had.
They cook with three stones as cook stove, and eat different colours of tint glutinous rice in different festivals. Women and men will not eat together when guests come.
They never marry with other ethnics until now. Their wedding is very simple, no bride price, no dinner serving for the guests and relatives. After wedding, brides will stay with her parents until pregnant. Divorce is as simple as wedding in their customs. Husband and wife should invite elderly from their families under a big tree. They will kill a chicken and daub the chicken blood on both hands of husband and wife which announces the end of marriage.
Qiaocai festival is the most important and unique festival of Luo people. They are singing and dancing in that day. They always dance with drums which thought to derive from funerals of Luo people. When people pass away, all the village are singing the requiem songs and accompany with drums.
Chengzai must be the oldest Luo people’s tribe in the world. Besides their life customs, wardrobe is also an important aspect of this ancient culture. All the clothing they wear is made by Luo women. At daily time, girls will wear clothes made by themselves and accept evaluations.
