Book a Table: Openings, Grange Appetizers, Last Chance to Vote
This week I went to Grange Grill to try the new appetizer menu there. It had been years since my last visit, and I remembered the restaurant as offering very large, American-sized and -style dishes. This is still true of the gargantuan mains, but the appetizers are now more refined and gourmet, with beautiful presentation and great taste.
Below you can see the new Cobb salad, which includes hard boiled quail eggs on an avocado sauce (yum!), and the foie gras and duck. I'm not a huge fan of duck unless it'skaoya, but this appetizer was amazing. Paired with the orange marmalade it all kind of tastes like Christmas.
Mains are still huge. We split a surf and turf platter between two girls, with two tiny steaks, two tiger prawns, a half a lobster (perfectly done, I might add), a slab of cod, and two delicious chicken legs.
Desserts are also big and indulgent. This is the chocolate trio, which comes with a great chocolate mousse inside a chocolate ice cream cone.
In other news, you've only got one more day to vote in our Restaurant & Bar Awards, so if you haven't voted yet, it is time to do so!
And lots of new openings:
The Gramercy: I finally made it to this place on Tuesday. The wine list is extensive and all very affordable, with about 20 by the glass offerings. Some of the wines (RMB35 Sauvignon Blanc, the Shiraz and the Chardonnay from the by the glass list) are pretty crappy, but others (Californian Pinot Gris, Riesling, Cabernet Sauvignon) are really tasty.
Hengshan Hui is in soft opening in the Twin Towers.
Suzuki Kitchen in Gulou has a much bigger second branch.
La Fourchette is opening sometime after the May holiday.
And expect an exciting organic supermarket/cafe/restaurant by Green Yard organic dairy to open in Oceanwide International in mid-May. More on that to come.
