Brunch at Tiffany's is a new City Weekend blog about the dating exploits of a group of Shanghai's most desirable professional women. The names used in this blog are purely fictional, but the personalities, incidents and places used are based on the author's life in Shanghai so it may not be entirely coincidental that they bear a resemblance to real people, events and venues.

"So how are things going with your new bloke?" Nicole asked me, noticing that I was unusually quiet.

"Actually, just last night, it all kinda fell apart." I said slowly, raising my eyes to look at Nicole and feeling the grittiness in my eyes from last night's crying. There were immediate coos of "ohs" and "what happeneds" from the girls which made me wonder if I should have just stayed at home and cried some more. But heck, that's not me.

"You know Todd and I had been having problems lately, with the flirting that's going on between him and this other girl. So we had a fight earlier last night. Then by the end of the night, he just went for it and made out with her. I was actually leaving and was looking for them to say goodbye. I found them. Making out." I breathed out slowly, my guts clenched into knots. In my self-absorbed state, I launched into my soliloquy. The girls and (for once) the food faded into the background.

"I started bawling even before I got downstairs. When I got to my compound, I didn't want to go home and be alone. So I went to the children's playground underneath my building and sat on the swings. Crying." There were more coos of "awws."
